Individual Note: Born near GreenTree, Burlington CO. On father's death, he was sent to live
with a Quaker family in Port Elizabeth, NJ, where he passed his boyhood. He
learned the tailor trade and later became a merchant and with his partner,
furnished supplies to a part of the American Army of 1812, which was encamped
on the site of the old Port Elizabeth school house. He subsequently engaged in
the drug (medicine) business and while thus employed, improved his
opportunities to teach medicine. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College,
Philadelphia, PA in 1826, it's first year. he located to Mauricetown, NJ,
where he worked as a doctor for over forth years. He was very successful, with
a practise that covered territory later supported by six doctors. His through
knowledge of medical science, coupled with natural ability won for him an
enviable reputation. Even in the latter part of his life, his steady hand and
mature judgment were eagerly sought in critical cases. Not withstanding, the
onerous duties of his profession, he also gave attention to business pursuits
and farming. He was a Democrat and took interest in politics. In 1842, he was
elected to the State legislature, being the only Demo Rep who had been sent
from Cumberland CO for a long period. He was as County Freeholder for several
successive terms. He was with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, being a
charter member of Ariel Lodge, No 65 of Mauricetown. Religiously, he was with
the Society of Friends, but then became a Methodist.

Individual Note: William, the fifth child, was affected with disease of the spine, but enjoyed as
good general health as many other children in a similar condition. One day,
looking up to his father with a thoughtful air, the boy asked him where he was
to be on the following day. The father replied that he did not know. "Well,"
little William said, "tomorrow at eight minutes after twelve I am going to
die." The following morning he made his will as to the disposal of his
playthings, and at the time mentioned he died, having been apparently in the
usual health up to the very minute when his pure spirit took its flight.

Benajah left and remarried and now there is some who say he died in Va. It is believed he died in Heislerville but there is no tombstone or record. His will says he died interstate and some believe he just left and his wife declared him dead. There is no positive proof to any of this.
